** I received this book for review via LibraryThing**
I was so psyched to learn I won a book giveaway via LibraryThing. It is the first book I’ve ever won from them. The book I received was:
Never Tear Us Apart
Katherine “Katie” Watts was kidnapped, tortured and raped when she was twelve years old. Her life changed completely in an instant. Will, her kidnapper’s son, has also suffered at the hands of his abusive father, but when he finds Katie in their storage shed he goes against his fears to rescue her and take her to the police. Ever since her rescue, Katie has considered him her guardian angel. Eight years later, she finds herself still striving to cope with the trauma from her past. Will comes back into her life as Ethan, although Katie doesn’t recognize him as her savior. Ethan still cares for her, but is frightened that if he reveals his identity he will lose her forever.
Never Tear Us Apart is a beautifully written story about hope and survival after facing an extremely traumatic experience. This was my first time reading a book by Monica Murphy, so I can’t compare it to any of her earlier works, however it really covers a lot of deep issues and is a very emotional, powerful and evocative piece. As the summary states, it is a dark contemporary dealing with rape and the after effects it incurs.
The writing and switching point of views makes it easier to understand what is going on in the character’s mind and allow for more heartfelt emotions. You are able to get insight into both Katie’s difficulties with coping with her trauma and Ethan’s hardships with accepting himself. A great dark and angsty read!
