Paperback vs Hardback

This is a topic I wanted to ask my followers’ opinion. I thought it was a vast majority of readers preferring hardback to paperback books, but I’ve seen some post and reviews where a lot of people mention they are partial to paperbacks. Go figure. Personally I LOVE LOVE LOVE hardbacks! I know they are more expensive, but I like them so much more. Granted, there are always pros and cons to both, although in theory hardback is the better option. In reality however, there are many things you have to keep in mind when puchasing books. Here are some pros and cons of each.
Paperback
Pros:
- Cheaper
- Lightweight
- Easy to carry
Cons:
- Damage more easily
- Plain Cover
- Taking longer to be released
Hardback
Pros:
- Solid
- More wear resistant
- Pretty dust cover (on some)
- More detailed cover (embossed, metallic, etc.)
- Available as soon as the book is released
Cons:
- Expensive
- Heavy
- Take up a lot of space

What's On My Bookshelf? 
I am very much a paperback kinda guy. Almost 95% of all the books I own are paperback, and half of them are mass market editions. With most of the series I’m reading/buying, I am so behind that I have several previous instalments to read when a mass market edition of the newest entry is released and thus I go for the cheapest option. Also, I have a huge TBR, so I’m not in a hurry to read the newest releases 🙂
Granted, I do buy the occasional hardback from my favourite authors, but it’s rather rare. Give me a solid trade paperback.

Most of my books are also paperback. They’ve been collected over the years from thrift stores, garage sales, bookstores, etc, but since I recently started purchasing books for myself (as opposed to my family in general) I have gotten mostly hardback be cause I want them to last longer. Granted they are more expensive which keeps me from getting too many.

I have to say I don’t have a preference. Also, the paperbacks also have details on their covers (as you said: embossed, metallic). So, it depends. Likewise, some books are released first in the paperback.
What I like about hardcovers is that they usually have a bigger font, and the paper has a higher quality. Also, the pages are not glued.

True. I am just biased I suppose. Most paperbacks aren’t great quality except a select few usually by popular authors. Thats basically the only thing I have against them.
